The Fifth Gospel

(In the New Testament, there are 4 gospels, i.e. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Readers of these gospels will learn about Jesus, His teachings and how He expressed His love for people by dying for their sins. Equally, people “read” the lives of Jesus’ followers and scrutinise for evidence of the transformation that has resulted from meeting the living Christ.)

You are writing a gospel, a chapter each day
By the things that you do and the words that you say.
Others read what you write, distorted or true,
What is the gospel according to you?

I came across a related poem. You might like this too:

I’d rather see a sermon, than hear one any day,
I’d rather one would walk with me than merely tell the way.
The eye’s a better pupil and more willing than the ear;
Fine counsel is confusing; but example’s always clear.

The best of all the preachers are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.
I soon can learn to do it, if you let me see it done.
I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run.

The lectures you deliver may be wise and true,
But I’d rather get my lessons by observing what you do.
I may not understand the high advice you give,
But there’s no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
